Forest School
CBG successfully delivered this refurbishment project at the Forest School in Horsham. It educates students between the ages of 11 and 16 and is a specialist Engineering and Business and Enterprise College. Working under a Design & Build contract, CBG provided new showers, changing rooms and toilet facilities to accommodate the school becoming a co-educational facility for the new school year. Previously a boys school, the school welcome its first female students in September 2021, requiring new welfare facilities. The scope of works included new floors, partitions, doors, sanitary-ware, plastering and a full decoration package. A full mechanical and electrical package was completed including new ventilation and lighting. External brickwork repairs were carried out, and new windows installed. Hard landscaping works included a new pedestrian walkway through the school grounds.
Eltham College
CBG has recently secured the new build Science Block at Eltham High School. The Science Block will be over four floors including a lower ground floor and loft. The Science Block will provide four new laboratories and one preparation room. A full M&E package will be carried out, including the provision of a new plant room. CBG will carry out the project whilst the school remains open and operational to both staff and pupils with shared access and egress. Comprehensive logistics and health and safety planning have been implemented, ensuring that not only the safety of the staff and pupils, but also minimising potential disruption to the day-to-day school activities. Physical hoarding will be used to protect the school from the construction area and all deliveries will be scheduled around the school day / timetable.
Union Wharf
We successfully delivered the upgrading / replacement of the insulation and cladding at Union Wharf, an occupied residential block in London. The project was secured via a two-stage tender, with CBG completing the design development to RIBA Stage 5. The works included the removal of the existing render system and non-compliant insulation, replaced with a new EWI insulation system. The existing timber decking was removed and replaced with an A rated aluminium decking. A new BBA compliant soffit cladding system was completed to the car park.
Durrington High School
We completed the construction of the new state of the art Performing Arts Centre at Durrington High School. Delivered whilst the School remained open and operational, CBG created the new 800m2 Performing Arts Centre including a new stage area, auditorium & associated back-stage areas. The first floor mezzanine provided space for a visitor viewing gallery and multi-use studio space. The main auditorium was fitted with electronically controlled bleacher retractable seating suitable for 335 audience members, with additional seating for a near 400 capacity venue. Bespoke lighting, sound and visual installations were critical for the success of the project allowing students to work with industry leading technology. A 7M X 4.5M screen, high quality laser projector and thirty stage lights were installed. Acoustic wall and ceiling diffusers. Externally four parking spaces were provided with EV charging capability. The project had sustainability at its heart with 3000 LED light fixtures, 410 solar panels installed on the roof and air source heat pumps.
Brighton College
Brighton College is a Grade II listed independent school, catering for children between the ages of 13 and 18. Continuing our close relationship with Brighton College we successfully delivered a high specification contract to refurbish the School Head’s House & Fenwick buildings. The works consisted of the internal refurbishment of bathrooms, bedrooms & common areas. Completed in just 8-weeks, the works consisted of stripping out multiple areas of the buildings over several floors. Non-structural reconfiguration of the partitions was carried out to create the new spaces. A complete services package was included to create new toilet facilities alongside cubicle partitioning, new sanitary-ware and a complete redecoration package throughout. The works were complete in 8-weeks enabling the College the use of the buildings during the Summer holidays.
Tesco Express
CBG successfully completed extension and alteration of the Tesco Express Store in St Leonards on Sea, Hastings. The works were shell and core and involved new pitched and flat roof extensions to the front and rear of the existing building including extensive structural steel and external works. The project bordered an operational pharmacy and health centre so careful planning and coordination was required throughout the construction process. The project was undertaken on a design and build basis with novated architectural and engineering consultants.
CO-OP Local Store
CBG successfully delivered the new Co-op store to shell & core under a Design and Build form of contract on a brownfield site in New Romney. CBG completed both the structural and external landscaping elements of work. The new store construction is a single storey steel frame with metal cladding and pitched roof. A glazed entrance was installed at the front of the building and hard landscaping undertaken to provide a new parking area for customers. The new store, built on a derelict site has provided valuable jobs to the local economy as well as provide an important amenity for local residents.
Kingsmead
This was a Design and Build project undertaken for St Modwen Property to three blocks at The Meads, Shopping Centre estate in Farnborough. The project involved the removal of the existing render and EPS insulation to all three existing blocks. A replacement EWI compliant render system was installed (with a BBA certificate). The cladding panels were removed to allow for installation of new insulation behind, the existing panels were then subsequently reinstated. The timber decking was removed from all balconies and terraces, and replaced with a compliant aluminium product. Within the building, fire compartmentation was completed to all common areas in two of the blocks. All of the flats above the retail units and the Travelodge Hotel remained in occupation throughout the construction work. Works to each balcony and terrace had to be carefully coordinated with St Modwen’s Estates Team to keep the residents informed throughout.
South Cliff Tower
CBG Construction Ltd were appointed as Design and Build contractor for the external refurbishment of South Cliff Tower, Eastbourne, which is an existing 18 storey residential tower block adjacent to the seafront in this busy East Sussex resort. The project involved waterproofing works to the balconies on the tower, concrete repairs, a new EWI rendering system, new windows, new balcony doors and an external redecoration package. The works were undertaken in one continuous phase from the West elevation, using mast climbers. Following completion of the extensive concrete repair programme we applied a new waterproof layer to all of the balcony decks followed by a total door replacement programme with new high quality aluminium units. This included the creation of a new 150mm up-stand to all thresholds to prevent water ingress. Upon completion the South elevation was completely redecorated in anti-carbonation paint.
Marineside
CBG successfully delivered this external refurbishment to 3 blocks of low-rise flats right next to the sea in Bracklesham Bay, near Chichester. The works included removal of the existing cladding and render with a replacement insulated render system (EWI), replacement flat roof, concrete repairs and new balustrades to the balconies. All works were carried out with the flats in occupation throughout.
